My research interests are: Free choice profiling and qualitative behaviour assessment techniques for welfare assessment. Long distance transport of pigs. Effect of journey length on the health, welfare and carcass quality of pigs. Pre-natal stress in pigs, sheep and goats. Piglet survival and the development of the PigSAFE farrowing system and the welfare of piglets and sows in free farrowing environments. Genetics of aggression in pigs; the welfare implications of mixing, early life experience and socialisation techniques Sub Acute Rumen Acidosis (SARA) in beef cattle Assessing pain at parturition in pigs Assessing locomotion and vocalisation behaviour of turkeys in commercial flocks.
