My main research interests lie in the integration of behavioural, physiological and statistical techniques to investigate animal welfare issues, primarily with those relating to modern livestock production and laboratory animals. My most recent research focuses on innovation and refinement of humane on-farm killing and humane stunning methods for pigs and poultry, such as Low Atmospheric Pressure Stunning as alternative to controlled atmosphere stunning systems. I am also investigating the effects of hypobaric hypoxia in rodents and the potential for developing higher welfare euthanasia protocols for these animals in laboratory settings.
